North American Companies Operating in North America, Volume 5: The Original Maple Bat Corporation

November 6, 2009

To celebrate the climactic end of the 2009 World Series of Baseball between the N. Y. Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies, Antonio Valente would like to spotlight a North American company that manufactures one of the game’s most important tools, the baseball bat.

The Original Maple Bat Corporation started in 1997. The founder, Sam Holman, began his quest to invent and patent the first Major League approved maple wood bat when Bill MacKenzie, then a scout for the Colorado Rockies, asked a simple question, “We’re just breaking too many bats. Do you think you could come up with an answer to that?”

The Ottawa based company is now recognized as a pioneer and has contributed to some of the most exciting moments in baseball, for example Barry Bonds hit his 756th home run to break Hank Aaron’s record with a SAM BAT. Barry Bonds now holds the record for most career home runs with 762. Sam Holman founded his company on a drive for innovation and quality while operating in North America. The culmination of his vision is an industry leading product that has been recognized by the game’s most noted hitters.

All of us at Antonio Valente would like to extend our congratulations to the New York Yankees for being the 2009 World Series Champions and winning their 27th title. To read more about the Fall Classic have a look at the New York Times, Sporting News and MLB.com.
