In response to a reader’s request for news and current affairs that are laid out very simply, for small talk purposes, we are going to try offering different type of daily news – news worth knowing and discussing.  We will highlight a few important news stories of the day, explain them quickly, and link to them so you can find more about them if you like. It’s designed to help you have more small talk with your clients.

Arturo Gatti, the famed Brazilian boxer, was ruled to have committed suicide by the CBCThe Associated Press, The Vancouver Sun and several others. He was at an apartment in North Eastern Brazil.  He was brought up and buried in Montreal, Canada. His wife was originally accused of killing him. If you’re going to read one article, the Vancouver Sun’s is the best one.

The Calgary Herald is reporting that eBay sales made in Canada will now be subject to tax:

“Taxpayers should know that the tax laws that apply to traditional commerce apply in the same way to electronic commerce, like eBay selling,”
