Independant Watch Companies and Models Worth Noting

July 23, 2009

AskMen.com, which I can tell is going to be one of our favorite resources for helping our customers and friends look and act their best, did a great article on independent watch companies, and their offerings.

Did you know that Omega, Hamilton, Longines, Tissot, Blancpain, and Bregeut were all owned by the same company (Swatch Group)? How about Panerai, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, A. Lange & Sohne, and Cartier (Richemont)? Finally, did you know that Hublot, Tag Heuer and Zenith were all owned by LVMH? Changes your perspective on things, doesn’t it?

While the article talks about 5 independent manufacturers, my personal favourite is the line from Armin Strom.  Much like Antonio Valente, Armin’s designs and productions are done under one roof, and with an old-world, personal attention to quality and detail that isn’t often found.

Wikipedia has a list of many of the worlds watch manufacturers. They say that as long as most of a movement is made by a company, then that company can call themselves the manufacturer.  To us, if you take your clothing as seriously as you take your timepieces, the individual approach and the attention to quality details should be where you start looking for a watch that you like.
